So...my office was two hours of utter chaos this morning. My boss is in the office today for the first time in months (he's been overseas and on vacation)...bringing with him changing priorities, quick exchange of piles of information, shifting of workloads and other chaotic fun.

Because I didn't think my life was busy enough between now and when I leave for Phoenix next Thursday, I decided I needed to make an afghan for my father and his wife. I started on it yesterday. Fortunately, it seems to be one that will go quickly. It's done in panels, nine panels to be exact. The original pattern called for 9 bright colors. I opted for shades of brown and muted greens. I finished one panel last night.

Which makes it sound all intellectual, when really it isn't.

I make no secret of the fact that it's the psychological side of BDSM that fascinates me, the control and release of control, the use of physical stimulation to cope with mental/emotional turmoil, the limits and what happens when we reach them, when we over step them. When too much isn't enough, and when too much is...too much....all of this really appeals to me.

So yesterday, as I was chatting with [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon by g-chat and managed to bunny her into writing a not necessarily BDSM fic, but certainly one that skirts around the world of BDSM, I suddenly found myself bunnied as well.

Both stories will be a similar setting: a group of friends, one of whom is fondly thought of as the group slut (no shaming involved, I just think it's the best word to play with here, as the boy in question has slept with just about everyone in the group, and is about to be the object of a gang bang of sorts)...where kidding leads to action, and action leads to the slut in question being stripped and used by both men and women over the course of however long it takes.

But as we were talking, and she was writing, it occurred to me that in a situation like that, where none of the friends really had any experience with what it's like to be the sub in such a situation, it would be easy for the submissive to fall into sub-space, to be psychologically incapable of self-care, and one of the group would need to figure out how to help him. Of course, [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon picked up on that right away once I'd said it, but it wouldn't let me go and I thought about it all afternoon/evening.

This morning I sat down to write it myself, knowing we would end up with two very similar stories, but also knowing that the differences between them would also intrigue me. 1200+ words and I'm done with the porny bit and into the part where one of them realizes that the sub needs help.

In my story, I'm seeing them all as relatively inexperienced with the dynamics of group sex, let alone the dynamic of group sex focused largely on fucking the ever-loving daylights out of one person, including the man who is that center of attention. I'm imagining that he, at least, has thought about it, and that it turns him on, and that he's a completely willing participant in everything that follows the suggestion, but has never actually experienced it and is unprepared for how it affects him emotionally/mentally.

I will hopefully finish the piece tonight and post it, and I look forward to seeing [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon's version as well.

Interestingly, the idea of the two of us writing off of the same basic idea made me think of a writing challenge that I think could be fun. Unfortunately with as dead as LJ has been, I'm not sure LJ is the place for it, so I'm considering using AO3, but that will require a little more research on my part for how that works.

Basically, the premise would be I (or whatever other mods want to help out) would post a summary that is character/fandom generic, but gives the basic premise of a story. Whoever wants to participate in the challenge has a month or so to write a minimum of say 1500 words in whatever fandom (including original) with whatever characters, as long as the end story fits the summary.

Sound like fun? Any interest at all?

Okay, on that note, now that the chaos has settled around me, I should get to work. Crazy ass deadlines yet again.

You:

a) Are you a crafty kind of person? If yes, what is your BEST crafty-craft?
2) If you were offered the opportunity to go do something you love doing for a full year but to do it you would have to go someplace where you don't know anyone, don't speak the language and can't easily leave to come home from...would you do it?
c) If you suddenly were handed $100,000 tax free and obligation free, what would you do with it?
4) Giraffe or Elephant?
e) Define compassion.
6) Skittles or M&Ms?
g) Define persecution.
8) Monkey?
i) What if someone really is out to get you?
10) Have I told you lately that I love you?

3.) Honestly, I have no idea. Probably something boring like put it in for retirement.
4.) I got nothign.
5.) Skittles definitely. Damnit, now I want skittles
6.) Still gto nothing. Brain is focused on job issues.
7.) MONKEY!
8.) If someone really is out to get me, then it's not paranoia. It's reality. And they should be careful what they wish for.

I eagerly await your from-the-same-jump stories. I will read the schnitz out of that group challenge. And leave comments, so does that help any?

a) I have made ruffled eyelet christening bonnets. Or tiered gathered batiste petticoats with rows of pintucks, ribbon-threaded beading, and eyelet flounces. I restored antique baby clothes and women's whites, cloth dolls, stuffed animals, quilts. I went through a phase where I covered ugly boxes and book covers, the inside of open shelving, with gift wrap and glue, or bought wholesale white pillar candles and rolled them in cinnamon, cocoa powder, or instant coffee, wrapped a strip of brown paper around them and tied them with raffia for gifts. There's more, but I'm old and I forget.
2) No. Because I'm a wienie.
c) Visit family, pay their bills, travel, probably Europe.
4) Unfair! I love them both. Comes down to space available and accomodations.
e) Empathy with judgment
6) M&Ms
g) Judgment without empathy
8) No, but thank you.
i) C'mon, bring it.
10) P'shaw, you make me blush.

c)Pay off bills, get my dad dentures, buy a better car.
4)Giraffe!!!
e) Empathy, sympathy for others' situations
6)M&M's
g)When one group or individual selects another group or individual to hatefully, systematically, mistreat without reason.
8)MONKEY!!!!! always MONKEY
i)Then I guess they get me, but watch out, cause I get back.
10) UM , No, but I love You.

Why are you coming to Phoenix?

10) Aww...thank you!

As to Phoenix, well, I am coming to see Great Gig in the Sky at Sail Inn. Then continuing down to Tucson to see my daddy and my [livejournal.com profile] darling_lisa. It will be a crazy fun weekend.

Pink Floyd tribute band headlined by former Kane guitarist Jason Southard, and former Kane drummer Ryan Baker on the drums. Amazing group of musicians. Best Pink Floyd I've ever heard that wasn't actually Pink Floyd.

I think it's interesting that I have several friends who read/write BDSM. It's not really something I've ever been that into and I have to admit, I know very little about it.

a) Love the crafty! I've tried several different things, but the one I stick with most often is jewelry. I love to make jewelry, most especially bracelets. Would you like one?
2) Nope. Far too shy to go somewhere I don't know anyone and don't speak the language.
c) TRAVEL to see my friends. I love having friends all over the globe (thanks, interwebs!) but it makes it hard when you want to see them and hug them and stay up all night talking.
4. Elephant
e) Being able to see and comprehend another's issues and sympathize/empathize with them
6) M & M's all the way
g) continual, constant mistreatment of an individual or group
8) In the middle?
i) RUN!
10) You have not. But that's ok, cause I still love you anyway

I'm still boggled at how your wordcount as already doubled mine... and I was so pleased with getting like 500 words out yesterday. Of course, [livejournal.com profile] mutedbyfear distracted me with a two hour phone call but heyho. I'm really interested in seeing both the similarities and the differences between what we write. Oooh I'm all excited!

a) No, I wish I was but all my creativity is in the medium of wordmaking
2) Am I on my meds and balanced? Because if so - and I can take my laptop and phone with me... HELL YES
c) I'm going to assume here that you're giving me £100,000 instead of $ :p. I would pay off my debts, buy a new car, have a nice holiday and put down a deposit on a flat of my very own :D
4) evil woman. I loves them both and cannot possibly choose between them. Although, my mum would say elephants for me... did I ever tell you the story of the first time my parents took me to the zoo?
e) Concern for, and understanding about, other peoples situation
6) yes, please. I think today is a skittle kinda day
g) attacking a person/group of people because of a perceived difference ie race/religion/hair colour
8) Velociraptor
i) Then I'm pretty sure there's some awesome people who would get them damn well back!
10) You has. And I love you too *nods*

a) Are you a crafty kind of person? If yes, what is your BEST crafty-craft? Not very, unless you consider "organizing" a craft. I am detail-oriented.
2) If you were offered the opportunity to go do something you love doing for a full year but to do it you would have to go someplace where you don't know anyone, don't speak the language and can't easily leave to come home from...would you do it? I already have, when I studied abroad at age 16. It was the best year of my life. Were I given the opportunity to do so again, I absolutely would.
c) If you suddenly were handed $100,000 tax free and obligation free, what would you do with it? Pay off student loans/rest of my schooling. The rest would go to fix my body and then leftover into a savings account. Or paying for my little sister's schooling.
4) Giraffe or Elephant? Sea lions.
e) Define compassion. being kind to others and yourself in every moment of your life.
6) Skittles or M&Ms? PRETZEL M&Ms.
g) Define persecution. putting an individual or group of same-thinking individuals down for their beliefs or lifestyle, done by another individual or group of opposing thinkers.
8) Monkey? No.
i) What if someone really is out to get you? Well, district attorneys are currently getting shot down in Texas... probably not much I could do about it, except alert the authorities and make sure my affairs were in order, just in case.

I am very interested in this story you are writing about sub-space. The psychological aspects are fascinating, though I only know it in theory, not actual practice myself.

1) In the context I was using, organizing wouldn't fit as a craft, but under a different definition it might. It is, after all, a good characteristic of Craft (as in the work part of witchcraft).

4) Also a viable option. *nods*

I should have the story posted in my fic journal tonight or tomorrow morning. It is RPS, and I don't remember if that bothers you or not.

And yes, psychologically I am very drawn to the dynamics...and in this case, coming at it from a perspective outside of the sub's POV is intriguing to me, as I tend to "side" with the sub and write from that perspective a lot. Also adding to the fascination is sort of the first time aspect of it...stumbling into it, so to speak.

From: [identity profile] lucdarling.livejournal.com
RPS isn't much of a bother. One of my absolute favourite stories/world is fictionalized real-life.

Ooh, so this might be a story of watching an outsider experience sub-drop, without realizing that's what's happening? More and more intriguing. I am excited to read this.

Yes, with the "outsider" being the instigator for the whole group sex activity, so there's the added confusion of whether he did something wrong, or maybe pushed the sub into something he didn't really want, etc...I'm just getting to that part of the story. I can't wait to dig into it!
